Balance Engineering Supplies (BES) is a division of Unique Engineering that specialises in the design and manufacture of pantographs for railway locomotives and off-highway trucks. BES has been servicing the needs of the South African market since 1986.

All components are manufactured, assembled and tested at Unique Engineering's ISO 9000 accredited facility in Boksburg.

New railway pantographs

A range of pantographs with varying base frame and collection head configurations are manufactured. These include models suitable for use on 300 v dc, 25 Kva and 50 Kva overhead lines.

High speed railway pantographs

A high-speed pantograph is currently under development with successful wind tunnel tests of 350 km/h having been concluded by the C.S.I.R.

Other railway related products are manufactured and supplied at customer request. These include:

• Electrical contact strips
• Insulators
• Motor spares

Off-highway pantographs

BES off-highway pantographs are currently in service on Euclid, Titan and Haulpak dump trucks on various open pit mines. BES services and rebuilds pantographs and offers on-site training in the correct setting procedures for in service pantographs.
