This patented blasting barricade can eradicate the difficulties associated with blast control at the working face in deep level mining. Unique blast barricades are in use at many of South Africa's major mining companies, and assist in increased ore recovery.

The blast barricade meets and passes the stringent fire resistant and toxicity requirements for underground mining. Weighing 12.5 kg per pipe the barricade has been designed to be easy to handle in stoping conditions and to be erected in less than 45 minutes.

The barricade can then be easily repositioned with each advance of the working face. Positioned just one metre from the blast face the barricade has in practice lasted in excess of 60 blasts and increased the number of blasts in a monthly cycle by three thereby greatly increasing productivity. The prime functions of this blast barricade are firstly to prevent ore being blasted into the back area and secondly to contain as much fine ore (gold) particles as possible.
